§ 6.00. Personal Leave.

    Full-time Employees shall accumulate personal leave in accordance with this vacation accrual schedule.

    B.

    Regular Part-Time Employees accrue three (3) hours of personal leave per pay period.

    C.

    Regular Part-Time Employees who transition into Full-Time Employee status shall receive pro-rata years of service credit for purposes of the vacation accrual schedule set out above in Paragraph A, based upon part-time hours worked. (By way of example, a Regular Part-Time Employee who works 20 hours per week for four years and then becomes a Full-Time Employee would accrue two (2) years of service for purposes of the vacation accrual/years of service table set out in Paragraph A, above.)

    D.

    Personal leave shall be earned only upon completion of each full pay period.

    E.

    An employee hired for a temporary position shall not accrue personal leave.

    F.

    Changes in the accrual rate shall take effect on the pay period immediately following eligibility for such change.

    G.

    Personal leave accrued, but not used, shall accumulate to a maximum of not more than 360 hours on January 1 of any calendar year.

    H.

    The salary rate used in computing the cash payment to be made shall be that rate which is being received by the employee on the date the application for cash payment is signed by the employee.

    I.

    If leave buy out is available, it will be approved by the City Manager and funded by the City Council.

    J.

    Each Full-Time Employee shall take at least ten (10) days or 80 hours of personal leave each calendar year unless otherwise approved by their department head. It shall be the responsibility of the department head to ensure that each employee is given the opportunity to use this leave and scheduled in accordance with the department work load. In the event the employee does not take ten (10) days or 80 hours of leave in the calendar year, the employee will lose the unused balance of the eighty (80) hours of accrued leave.

    K.

    The department head may require that the employees apply for personal leave a reasonable length of time in advance of taking planned leave. The request for personal leave shall be approved or disapproved within ten (10) working days from date received.
